Hot water waiting when you get up

Switching the water heater on from your phone is handy. Not having to think about it at all is better: it comes on by itself 45 minutes before your alarm and goes off again within the hour. The air conditioner and the shutters work the same way, following your bedtime and your alarm.

The water heater, before the alarm

It's one of the ready-made actions, "Hot water before getting up". Move the alarm and the heater moves with it.

What will happen tonight

At the top of the screen is a timeline for the night: what comes on in the evening, what comes on in the morning, and what won't run tonight. Next to everything that comes on is the latest time it will go off.

So in the evening you can see what the house will do overnight and in the morning, and change it before it happens.

Nothing stays on for more than four hours. If a device doesn't confirm it switched off, the app tells you, so you can check. And the app's record of what it did lists only what a device confirmed.

Ready-made, or your own

Three come ready-made: hot water before getting up, a cool room for sleep (the air conditioner comes on at bedtime), and shutters that open when you stop the alarm. Or make your own in three steps: which device, what it should do, and when. At the end, one sentence sums it up.

You choose the moment: as the wake window opens, as many minutes before the alarm as you like, when the alarm is stopped, at bedtime, or when night mode starts or ends.

Your devices, through Google Home

Wakira works with the devices you already have in Google Home. You give it permission on Google's own screens and choose which home and which devices; Wakira then shows them room by room and switches them at the moments you pick: before the alarm, as the wake window opens, at bedtime, when you stop the alarm, or when night mode starts or ends.

It does only what you set, and only what the device can do: switch on or off, bring a light up slowly, set an air conditioner or thermostat to heat or cool, open or close the shutters. Disconnect, and anything Wakira switched on is switched off and every Google Home device is forgotten.

For now Google lets only test accounts connect, so the first testers are the first to try it.
